If you are having issues with a Chromebook that is not typing the correct letter that corresponds to the key, or if punctuation marks aren’t working – there is a good chance that this is the issue.

Many times the keyboard layout get switched from the US layout to other layouts like: INTL (international), WM (workman), DV (Dvorak), etc. Students are capable of changing this by going into the settings or by accident (key combinations can change this also.) Below are steps how to quickly revert it back to the correct keyboard layout:

In the bottom right corner of the screen you will see a bubble where the WiFi, battery and time is displayed, as well as which keyboard layout is selected. Currently you can see INTL is the layout, if this says anything else besides US, continue following the next steps to correct this.

1. Click the bubble where the time and info is.

2. Click the Keyboard icon.

3. Click the option for US keyboard.

4. When finished the screen should look like this.

Another quick way to toggle this settings is by holding the CTRL key and pressing the Space bar. This will go back and forth between the US keyboard and whichever other layout was selected.
